2720 Cherokee Performing Arts Center
Biography & Highlights
You can hear the bass thumping right through the brick before you even reach the glass doors on Cherokee Street on a Friday night. Security checks IDs slow while a cluster of smokers blocks the sidewalk, arguing about who played drums on that old 90s record. It's loud, crowded, and smells like cheap floor cleaner mixed with hot electronics. Heavy room. Door guys don't care about your guest list drama.
Inside, the space stretches out long and narrow with a raised stage at the far end that puts every band right in your face. There isn't any fancy lighting setup, just a couple of par cans throwing harsh blues and reds across the sweat. You're standing on warped wooden floorboards that bounce every time the kick drum hits, so you won't keep your drink from sloshing over the rim.
The bar sits off to the side pouring heavy drafts in plastic cups that cost six bucks. People keep bumping past you toward the merch table crammed by the exit, waving crumpled twenties while the guitarist tapes down a loose power strip with duct tape and tunes his guitar.
